Data Basin - More Map Export Options
Once you've created a map in Data Basin, arranged everything so it looks just the way you want, and saved it -- what can you do next? One of the things you can do is export your map. Previously, exporting was restricted to a PDF document or a ZIP file that contained PNG images of the pages of the PDF document.
This worked, but once you had either of these forms, it was still difficult to create custom documents. If you wanted to create a poster with a bit of custom layout, or a presentation that you could show your colleagues, it would involve the use of screen shots or image editing.
Recently, we reworked the export functionality within Data Basin to make it more useful. You can still export to a PDF, or a ZIP file of PNG files, but now the ZIP file will contain individual images of the map components (the map image, individual legend images, and an image of the locater map). You can then use these mages in any third-party application.
In addition, you can also export your Map into PPT format, which will create a PowerPoint slide presentation with a similar layout to the PDF document. However, with the PowerPoint, you're free to move the document elements around to fit your needs.
The following screencast will show you how to use the Map Export functionality.
