Alberta Atlas

Intact landscape in transition

Global Forest Watch Canada produced the Atlas of Alberta: The Last Great Intact Forests of Canada, which focuses on Alberta's intact forest landscapes and key conservation values.  The Atlas also identifies key threats to future conservation. Global Forest Watch Canada provided this atlas, with its more than 125 maps, in the hope that it will assist Albertans and Canadians in their efforts to sustainably manage their forest legacy.

The pace and scale of human activity in Alberta is dramatic. In fact, the Alberta Government is of the opinion that Alberta has "reached a tipping point." The recent initiation of new land use planning efforts by the Gov of Alb illuminate the potential use of Atlas of Alberta as a tool for forest management decisions.

The atlas also provides national, hemispheric and global perspectives of Alberta's forests through maps. It is a point-in-time map record of Alberta’s forest legacy, including present locations of high value places
