John Bergquist

John Bergquist joined the Conservation Biology Institute in February 2002 bringing with him experience in aquatic sciences and GIS. John is a native Oregonian and has lived in various locations throughout the State. He is happiest exploring his favorite rivers and wilderness areas, blogging and community development. Environmental issues and how the Christian community can become active participants in restoration and stewardship are important themes in his life.

John earned his B.S. in Fisheries Science and B.S. in Political Science with an emphasis on environmental issues from Oregon State University in 1999. He has worked with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife the USDA Forest Service , and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians as an assistant Fisheries biologist and GIS Analyst. At the Tribes, John worked on several projects including multi-species habitat use in the Siletz River Estuary. One of his favorite projects was investigating habitat requirements for juvenile pacific lamprey and the distribution of pacific and western brook lamprey in the Alsea River Basin (Central Oregon Coast).

Currently, John is the online community leader for CBI. CBI’s community consists of scientists, sustainable energy professionals, naturalists, GIS professionals, NGO’s, government organizations, other non-profits, and private citizens with shared conservation interests. John manages the CBI website (with Nancy Staus) and all social networking tools for CBI including Twitter , Facebook , and the CBI Blog , among other things. John lives in Corvallis, Oregon with his wife Kristine, their son John August and their daughter Natalie.
