Cascadia Biodiversity Early Warning System

About

This is our team workspace for those actively developing a collaborative early warning system for biodiversity and ecosystem health in the Cascadia Region.

Our system works with, and not parallel to, existing science / policy initiatives in the region, adding value and species focus.  It's based on a successful model from South Africa. The early warning system will integrate  datasets, problems, and analytical and policy solutions of state, provincial, tribal and federal agencies, universities, nonprofits, corporates and (rigorously designed) citizen science initiatives.

Here, "Cascadia Region" just means the political entities BC, WA and OR - until partners determine otherwise, or incoming energy and funds create a reason to expand the region.

Our two main goals are

(a) marshaling collective effort to track species in space and time in fast-changing ecosystems;
(b) energizing and democratizing this effort through increased rigor and uptake of citizen science, so that ordinary people become increasingly engaged in, and empowered by, tracking species in space and time.

See more of the concept at our working draft website and our CBI program page.  You can also watch a short film (3 mins).
