I am one of the developers behind Data Basin. I helped create and launch Data Basin in 2010, and led the development team at CBI until the end of 2018.
My background is in forest and landscape modeling, particularly related to landscape-level dynamics of disturbance and succession. I have worked with LANDIS-II to address forest dynamics due to increased residential development around lakes in northern Wisconsin, and LANDSUM to simulate historical fire regimes across the US as part of the LANDFIRE project.
One of my primary goals is to make tools more easily accessible to the conservation community, in the hopes that well-documented, easy to use tools will help make conservation efforts more effective.
I now run a business focused on custom software development for science-based organizations (https://astutespruce.com). I focus on data visualization, mapping, and other custom software to help these organizations better communicate the latest available science to their stakeholders.
