I am a marine scientist focusing primarily in conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services. I use largely Geographic Information Systems-based tools to inform decision-making in conservation. I have experience working in coastal and marine ecology, conservation and sustainability in the Gulf of California, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. I have studied, published and developed management tools in the fields of geographic information systems, remote sensing, eco-informatics, ecosystem-based management, ecological economics, governance of natural resources, and sustainability science. I am presently conducting research on how the conservation of the flow of benefits from nature can promote sustainable development in large marine ecosystems.
