1KM Results: Conservation Value in the DRECP Study Area, (v33).
This dataset was created by the Conservation Biology Institute using an EEMS logic model and displays an index of biological conservation value at 1 km resolution across the DRECP area.
Note, this model reflects species prioritization based on the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan’s guidelines, such as selection of certain species for “covered” or “planning” status, as well as non-Plan-related information. Thus, appropriate use of model results is constrained to DRECP planning purposes.
Data used to create the conservation value logic model includes:
1) Area-weighted average (over 1 km reporting unit) proportation of under-represented natural vegetation communities, i.e. what percentage of a given community meets its conservation target (when analyzed against Legally & Legislatively Protected Lands), as set out by the REAT.
2) Shannon's Diversity Index, computed from the natural vegetation community dataset (landscape search radius = 3km).
3) Locally rare vegetation density, calculated using the natural community dataset.

4) Density of rare vegetation communities (S1-S3), calculated using the natural community dataset.
5) Count of rare species (S1-S3), based on California Natural Diversity Database polygon data.
6) Count of DRECP covered species, determined based on species distribution models.
7) Count of DRECP planning species, determined based on species distribution models.
8) Count of other species of interest (non-covered species), determined based on species distribution models.
9) Wildlife linkage condition. The linkage footprint is defined by desert tortoise linkages, SC Wildlands CA desert linkages, and bighorn sheep linkages which were not yet represented in the composite dataset (digitized from descriptions in the BHS the BGOs).
Note, wildland blocks (used to create linkages) are not represented in the linkage footprint. Areas within the linkage footprint were scored as to their current terrestrial condition using the 1km terrestrial intactness dataset developed by CBI.
