Count of Fish Species per 8-digit HUC in the SARP Region

Description:
These data layers represent the number of unique fish species found in each 8-digit HUC in the SARP region.  It was derived from NatureServe's Digital Distribution Maps of the Freshwater Fishes in the Conterminous United States, version 3.0.

The individual species shapfiles were merged together in ArcGIS and a count of the unique fish species within each 8-digit HUC was calculated.

The dataset offers 2 sets of symbology - one with 5 classes and one with 8 classes - to illustrate the range of biodiversity in the region.   ..

These data are dynamic with new records frequently being added and old records being revised as new information is received. As a result, the information on this website should not be considered a definitive statement on the presence or absence of freshwater fishes in any given watershed, nor should be used as a substitute for on-site surveys required for environmental assessments.
