This dataset was provided to the Conservation Biology Institute by Dudek. Note, this dataset does not include data for all DRECP covered species.
This layer includes species occurrence data derived from several different sources, including California Natural Diversity Database (CNDDB), Bureau of Land Management, California Department of Fish and Game, and California Avian Data Center data. Dudek used these data to model species distributions.
The use of data from multiple sources collected at different times, spatial scales, and for different purposes can result in an unsystematic and spatially biased occurrence data set. Sampling effort is, as expected, far greater in the western Mojave Desert and the Imperial Valley where there is a greater human presence and more road access that enables more intensive sampling. Sampling effort varies by taxonomic group, and taxa observed by similar methods will share similar bias.
This dataset is not available for public download.
The DRECP has obtained special permission from the CA Dept. of Fish & Wildlife to display these CNDDB data on public maps at scales smaller (more zoomed out) than 1:577,791. These data are not visible on maps zoomed in beyond this scale.
Disclaimer: These data are not a complete representation of all available species data. There may be additional occurrences or additional species within this area which have not yet been surveyed and/or mapped. Lack of information in the this dataset about a species or an area can never be used as proof that no special status species occur in an area.
