This dataset is a compilation of native grassland vegetation from the California Gap dataset and CALVEG (WHRTYPE = PGS).
In this Existing Vegetation tile, the CALVEG classification system was used for vegetation typing and cross-walked to other classification systems in this database. The USGS Land Use / Land Cover Anderson 1 classification system was also used. Mapping standards meet requirements of the USDA Forest Service (FS) as defined by the FS GIS data dictionary, FGDC Vegetation standards, FS Existing Vegetation Classification and Mapping Technical Guide. Regional add-ons are retained for the California Wildlife Habitat Relationship System (CWHR).
This layer also contains polygons for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park (SEKI) . The original data received from the National Park Service (NPS) was modified to conform to FS national and regional CALVEG existing vegetation mapping standards.
For more information refer to the GIS layer description, Existing Vegetation Mid Level Map by the USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region, at http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/rsl/projects/frdb/layers/ev_mid.html .
Not recommended for use at scales greater than 1:24000
