Description:
This map is the 1852 public land survey of the Portland, OR region.

The Oregon Country received U.S. territorial status in 1848. The Donation Land Act of 1850 created the Office of the Surveyor General of Oregon and provided for the survey of public lands according to the method established by the Land Ordinance of 1785 (The Public Land Survey System or PLSS).

Oregon’s first Surveyor General, John B. Preston, arrived in Oregon City in April 1851 and completed the initial survey in 1855.

This dataset allows shows land features present in 1852.
