Critical habitat constitutes areas considered essential for the conservation of a listed species. These areas provide notice to the public and land managers of the importance of the areas to the conservation of this species. Special protections and/or restrictions are possible in areas where Federal funding, permits, licenses, authorizations, or actions occur or are required. Freshwater/riparian-related species or populations in the Columbia Plateau with critical habitat designations are: Oregon Spotted Frog (proposed), Chinook Salmon (Upper Columbia River spring run ESU, Lower Columbia River ESU); Chum Salmon (Columbia River ESU); Steelhead (Upper, Middle, Lower Columbia River DPSs, Snake River Basin DPS), Bull Trout. Fields indicate presence of critical habitat for each species (i.e. ORspotFrog: Oregon Spotted Frog, 1 = critical habitat present ; MAX_ckucs: Chinook Upper Columbia spring, 1 = critical habitat present) PopNum field is the count of how many species/populations have overlapping critical habitat at that location.
