This dataset represents the "Core Protected Areas" AND the "Linkages among Protected Areas" inputs to the Flora & Fauna EEMS model. You can see both of these mapped by opening the EEMS Explorer for this EEMS-enabled layer and clicking on the respective criteria boxes.
This analysis accounts for one of the uncertainties in connectivity modeling: how to define the core areas. It does this by using two definitions of core areas, running the "
Linkage Mapper" model once for each definition, and combining the results. One definition assumes that core areas are large protected areas. The second assumes that core areas are only the large, high quality areas within those large protected areas. See the links below for more details.
Each analysis provides a corridors result, and these are combined in this EEMS model to create the input for the Flora and Fauna EEMS model. The same holds true for the cores.
As an exploration, the cores and corridors are also combined in a 1:3 weighted sum here in this model. This is a first attempt to make a single layer that represents the "Linkage Priorities among Core Protected Areas". This is also the result shown in the map thumbnail, and loaded upon default.
