GNN Forest Structure for the Pacific Northwest - Map Service

Dataset was scientifically peer reviewed
Description:
This web mapping service displays the Vegetation Class attribute of the Pacific Northwest GNN Forest Structure Model. Many other attributes are available in the data set. For more information about these other attributes, and to download the data, please visit the LEMMA site here:

GNN models for individual species are also available at http://lemma.forestry.oregonstate.edu/data/species-maps. The GNN models apply only to forest land (areas currently or with the potential to support at least 10% tree cover), because a consistent regional plot sample of non-forest areas is unavailable. Most users will want to use "masked" versions of the GNN maps, which are provided by the LEMMA site, where areas of non-forest land cover developed from the GAP Analysis Program's Ecological Systems map have been embedded in the GNN grids.

The most current GNN data are Landsat-based maps of forest structure and composition for Washington, Oregon, and northwestern California. The maps were developed primarily for two research projects: Northwest Forest Plan (NWFP) Effectiveness Monitoring (http://lemma.forestry.oregonstate.edu/projects/nwfp), and Carbon Monitoring for Wooded Ecosystems (CMONster) http://lemma.forestry.oregonstate.edu/projects/
cmonster).

Funding was provided by the USDA Forest Service (Pacific Northwest Region and Pacific Northwest Research Station, Resource Monitoring and Assessment Program), Oregon Department of Forestry, Washington Department of Natural Resources, and NASA.
