Historic range of the greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) in
Montana (USA). The data were initially researched and compiled by Dr.
Michael A. Schroeder, research biologist for the Washington State
Department of Fish and Wildlife. The initial draft of current and
historic range data was mapped and submitted to state, federal, and
provincial natural resource agencies and other experts for review,
comment, and editing. The final product represents the historic
range/distribution in Montana based on review and incorporation of
additional historic information by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks
wildlife biologists and managers. Definition of "Historic
Range" - The historic distribution represents the bird's maximum
distribution from the early 1800's to the 1970s.
