Designated renewable energy overlay zones as specified in the County Of Imperial Renewable Energy And Transmission Element and County Land Use Ordinance, Division 17.

Imperial County’s renewable energy overlay zone are the areas in which the county is encouraging renewable energy development. The renewable energy overlay zone is concentrated in areas that the county has determined to be the most suitable for developing renewable energy facilities while minimizing the impact to other established uses. The overlay zones cover 200,796 acres and can accommodate a range of technologies (69,146 acres specifically for geothermal resources and 131,650 acres for a variety of renewable energy technologies).
