Public Land Survey System Server Map from the California Department of Conservation. This dataset shows range and sections.
The Public Land Survey System (PLSS) grid is composed of the Bureau of Land Management PLSS Township and Range grid, with addition grids (including extention both offshore and onshore) from Department of Conservation and its Geologic Energy Management Division based on well permitting needs.
In support of permitting workflows within WellSTAR database and accommodate for wells within the state, the California Department of Conservation and its Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) composed a version of Township and Range grid. Based on the existing Bureau of Land Management Public Land Survey System (BLM PLSS) Township and Range grid with modifications from California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR), a three-mile limit of California jurisdiction is extended into offshore areas. The PLSS grid is also filled in within onshore areas that were left blank in the BLM and DPR record. Therefore, the PLSS dataset currently used by CalGEM is a composite of a BLM download (the majority of the data), additions by DPR, and polygons created by CalGEM.
