UTMNAD83N, UTMNAD83E, StatePlaneN, StatePlaneE, Latitude, Longitude = X,Y coordinates should be entered into the columns corresponding to the original data source coordinate system. Any additional information on datums or projections should be provided in the comments column. Coordinates were converted to Latitude and Longitude.
Accuracy:High: Coordinates from GPS or shapefile
Medium High: Coordinates derived from maps within paper reports
Medium: Area within preserve based on verbal/text description
Low: Location known only to large geographic area (e.g. Otay Mesa) or preserve level
PopSize = number of individuals estimated or counted or in the case of some plants, the number of locations where mapped which may contain multiple individuals/location (to be specified in Survey Type)
PopArea = measured with GPS or ARCGIS polygon in m2
NoLocations = Number of mapped or counted locations with multiple individuals present at each location. If there is one population at a location and the number of individuals have been counted, then there is no need to enter anything in this column.
Survey Method
Census = Count of all individuals
Index = Conduct cout of individuals or % cover within index plots to monitor population fluctuations over time.
Map = Map point locations of plants or animals with GPS or on hard copy map and input as point data into ARCGIS. A location can represent one individual or multiple individuals.
Other = Other type of survey method not described here
PartialEst = Count portion of site and use this to estimate remaining individuals on site and derive an estimate of the total number of individuals.
Perimeter = GPS perimeter or map boundaries of population on hardcopy map and input as polygon data into ARCGIS
PresentNoDetect = Survey was done to determine if species was present or not detected during site visit.
PtCount = Conduct a point count survey to determine abundance and richness of bird community
QuadratEst = Randomly place a quadrat and count number of individuals to estimate population size within a measured area
Transect = Conduct a line or belt transect to count number of individuals (e.g., birds, herps) or measure cover of plants
TransectEst = Randomly place transects and count number of individuals to estimate population size within a measured area
Trap = Use traps to capture small mammals and estimate size and distribution of population
Unknown = Unknown survey methodVisual
Est = Estimate number of individuals within defined area (e.g., releve). Estimate usually involves rounding or estimating within a category of abundance.
Population Status Codes (PopStat):ExtantExtirpatedPresumed ExtantPresumed ExtirpatedUnknownTranslocation
(Transloc):Yes = Transplanted population or individual
Blank = Naturally occuring pop or not thought to be translocated
Threats = Description of the threats/stressors that have been identified for that specific population.
Comments = Field included to clarify, describe in greater detail or provide additional information associated with that population or location.
Source1, Sourc2, Source3 = These columns are to document the sources of the information, with Source1 being the primary source, Source2 being the secondary source, etc.
