This dataset is an extract of sensitive communities (including Desert Wash, Desert Scrub, Great Valley Mesquite Scrub, Great Valley Cottonwood Riparian Forest, Mixed Chaparral, Montane Hardwood, Native Valley Foothill Riparian, Saline Emergent Wetland and Valley Oak Woodland) from the Vegetation Map - Southern San Joaquin Valley dataset.
This Vegetation Map - Southern San Joaquin Valley dataset was produced to facilitate regional planning, conservation, and
enhancement of biological resources by state agencies, project partners and
regional stakeholders with funding from the Wildlife Conservation Board and the
California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Geodatabase feature class containing a map of vegetation of portions of
the Southern San Joaquin Valley using the National Vegetation Classification
System and Survey of California Vegetation standards produced by the
Geographical Information Center (GIC) at CSU Chico. The areas mapped were
selected to: 1) abut the existing vegetation map of the Carrizo National
Monument ; 2) include areas in the southernmost portion of the San Joaquin
Valley that are identified in the map “Conservation Opportunities –San Joaquin
Valley” ; and 3) to include as much of the USDA Ecological Subsections (Miles
and Goudey 1997) on the southern and eastern edges of the San Joaquin Valley as
funding would allow (Hardpan Terraces, Elk Hills and Southern Valley Terraces).
Additional mapping will be completed for the San Joaquin Valley, including but
not limited to the southernmost portion of the Hardpan Terraces
subsection.
