- Description:
Note: To view just one group of species, turn the others off in the table of contents.
This data shows the number of endemic species dependent on freshwater habitats per HUC 12 watershed for different taxonomic groups, by listing status, and for all total freshwater species.
Californians face profound
decisions regarding the management of their state’s increasingly limited water
supply. Information about the plants and animals that also rely on California’s
freshwater resources to survive is critical for decision-making. To provide
that information, The Nature Conservancy created the California Freshwater
Species Database —a comprehensive spatial database of California’s freshwater
species compiled from numerous disparate sources. The database is now available to help improve
conservation efforts across California. For more information, please visit
http://www.scienceforconservation.org/projects/freshwater.
The data presented in this dataset was compiled from a variety of sources, including citizen surveys, and may have been subject to sampling bias. It should not be considered a comprehensive inventory of freshwater species in California.
This dataset was selected from a buffered boundary of Santa Barbara County, California.
