Northeast Wildlife Species

About

This gallery contains habitat (landscape capability) models for a set of representative species developed by the Designing Sustainable Landscapes project of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. These species were selected to represent the needs of a variety of other wildlife species with which they share habitat, collectively encompassing the major ecosystem types of the Northeast U.S. The highest quality examples of habitat for these species have been incorporated into "Nature's Network," (http://naturesnetwork.org/, also available in this DataBasin gallery). Specifically, habitat was incorporated into terrestrial and wetland core areas and, in the case of Common Loon, into aquatic core areas.
