Owens Valley Solar Energy Study (OVSES)

Owens Valley Solar Energy Study (OVSES)

About

This data-gathering report funded by the California Energy Commission (CEC) Renewable Energy Planning Grant (REPG) is the result of a data collection and mapping exercise that builds on existing datasets available through public resources. This study provides data on areas not analyzed under previous planning efforts, and finer-scale and more extensive analysis of areas that have been analyzed.  These data have been customized and formatted specially for Inyo County and the Owens Valley and are available to the public through a single, easy to use platform.

Studies conducted in support of this data-gathering effort funded by the REPG included collation of existing data sets regarding resources in the Owens Valley Solar Energy Study (OVSES), acquisition of additional data for portions of the OVSES not currently included in existing data sets through field surveys, Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis, and public outreach tasks. Resources analyzed under this planning grant include biological resources, cultural resources and visual resources, and are discussed individually as appendices to this report. Additional appendices provide detailed information on land use in the OVSES and on the public outreach process included in this study. The primary product of this effort is the assembly of a comprehensive database and a set of interactive mapping tools made available to the public on the Data Basin.
