Grasslands and shrublands provide a wide variety of vital ecosystem services, from forage production for livestock and wildlife and habitat for threatened and endangered species, to soil protection and water retention. However, grasslands and shrublands remain at risk from a myriad of threats including a changing fire regime, rapid human development, resultant ecological succession and climate change. The Desert LCC brings together interdisciplinary, multi-organizational experts working to identify the greatest threats to native desert grasslands and shrublands and the most appropriate techniques for conserving these vital resources.
