About
The
Landscape Climate Change Vulnerability Project (LCCVP) was conducted during
2011-2016 in collaboration with federal land managers and under funding from
the NASA Applied Sciences Program. The
geographic focus was on the Great Northern and Appalachian Landscape
Conservation Cooperatives and the national parks and surrounding ecosystems within
in them. The goal of the project was to
refine and demonstrate the four steps of a climate adaptation planning strategy
in the Great Northern and Appalachian LCCs using NASA and other data and models. The Department of Interior had issued the
first call for consideration of climate change in the form of Secretarial order
3289 (2010) which stated, “apply scientific tools to increase understanding of
climate change and to coordinate an effective response to its impacts”. This
order created DOI Climate Science Centers and Landscape Conservation
Cooperatives to help understand climate change impacts and manage federal
resources under its influence.
