Description
Mining of minerals and aggregates is part of the Illinois Valley’s history and current economy. There are currently 863 mineral occurrences, mines, and prospects recorded by the State of Oregon.  584 of these are on Forest Service lands and 156 on BLM.  Commodities include a wide range of metals (88%), aggregates - sand, gravel, stone (8%), and industrial minerals. This map shows the location of these sites and abandoned hard rock mines on BLM lands. Understand that recreation in and around inactive mine sites is extremely dangerous – stay out and stay alive!
