This map was created to review data and facilitate conversations about the progress of transitioning to a second growth timber strategy in Southeast Alaska.
This map displays pre-commercial thinned (PCT) second growth forest suitable for timber harvest on the Craig, Petersburg, Thorne Bay, Wrangell, and Ketchikan-Misty Ranger Districts of the Tongass National Forest.
The Conservation Biology Institute performed GIS analysis identifying areas based on criteria specified by Mater Engineering and NRDC. Please see descriptions of individual datasets for details on each layer.
You can explore the results of the spatial analysis on this map, including:
1. Open FS-roaded suitable second growth areas
2. Open FS-roaded suitable second growth (overlap) areas
