Enhanced Resistance v9

Dec 18, 2017 (Last modified Jan 9, 2019)
Description:
This dataset provides an estimate of landscape resistance, based on the extent to which human impacts such as urban development, linear development, natural resource extraction, and agriculture have disrupted the landscape across the study site. Resistance values are low in areas where these impacts are low.

This dataset was originally created to characterize anthropogenic barriers to animal movement and emphasizes linear features in terms of impact on the landscape. Additional model refinements include stratifying road impacts by TIGER class, (e.g. different weighting for different types of roads) and correcting for passable culverts and bridges. (See attachment for logic model diagram and additional details.)

This dataset is the exponential transformation of the Basic Corrected Resistance Layer. The formula used is in the attached .pdf and used x squared, and was adjusted so the the result also ranged from 10-1000. Note, the simple x squared divided by 1000 output is v8. We "burned" road data into the resustance surface, and "dodged" culvert data into these data.
